My Statement:

When I design, I imagine a story; I imagine something that can be made by using all sorts of media, acting like the most complex-looking jigsaw puzzle that still creates something beautiful. I adore making pieces for other people's stories and hearing their ideas and opinions while I do it. It’s like an orchestra of different instruments coming together making a beautiful symphony because that is what designing is: when you take your own voice and mix it with others, designing is like life—you are designed by collaborating with different elements and people, either on purpose or by pure luck, creating a design that is unique and no one can truly replicate without adding their own elements.

When I am first given a design idea, I try to imagine a general feeling: What do I want the person to feel when it's complete? I try to work back from that, trying to create a piece that has restrictions or necessities. This is a great way for me to stay simple in a way; by knowing the end goal and what I must work with, I get to the process. I like using Photoshop mainly and using Illustrator to help create supporting pieces, even at times making small animations and GIFs using After Effects and Premiere Pro.

I then start adding assets that fit the feeling, starting with the main piece that I want to have the most focus on, then including elements that will help convey what the main piece is supposed to symbolize. At times I can be very determined on what goes where and what media I need to use; other times I browse and play with items until I find a combination that works well with each other and makes the design interesting yet cohesive in a way. Depending on the project topic itself, I must research a topic, person, or issue so I can find elements that represent them. I, of course, when possible, ask for feedback or general questions at times from the people I am working on the project with. That way, I can try to come to the middle with their own ideal image with my own. If they don’t have any clue what they want, I will try to make two versions of the end design and let them pick which one they like best. When they choose that design, I ask for more finer details: Do they want anything specific added or removed? What do they like and dislike about it? We continue till we are left with a design we are both happy with.
